HISTORY OF THE TORTILLA

Tortillas originated in Mesoamerica and were a staple of the Aztec diet. Made from ground corn, and later from ground wheat, these “little cakes” were spread throughout the New World with the help of Spanish colonization. Today, tortillas serve as the foundation for many traditional Mexican dishes.

WHY “FRESH” TORTILLAS

There’s nothing quite like fresh. You really can taste the difference between a made-from-scratch tortilla and one that came out of a bag from the store. Traditional tortillas are made fresh, by hand, every day—and we think traditional just tastes better.

COSTA VIDA’S TORTILLAS

At Costa Vida, we make our tortillas fresh every single day. The dough is mixed and rolled out in small batches to ensure quality. We grill them at the store, right in front of you, on our traditional cast iron comal. It’s the same way they’ve been made for generations—and the best way to make delicious Mexican creations.
